We all want the very best for our elderly loved ones. They have given so much to take care of us and others, we can’t imagine anything less than tender and competent care when they need assistance. Often, we’re unable to be nearby for job or other reasons and it’s worrisome to think of them being alone.
Sometimes referred to as a “sandwich generation” we feel that we are obligated on one side to provide for our own children and pressed to care for aging parents on the other. It’s difficult.
Fortunately, technology allows us to not only speak with aging friends and relatives, but we can see them with platforms like Skype, Facetime, and others. It’s important to schedule a specific time each day or every few days to get on a phone, tablet, or computer and see with our own eyes how our loved ones are doing.
If it becomes necessary for someone to actually visit, there are many options for in-home aides to visit on an as-needed basis, to help with chores, cooking, or bathing. If the needs involve more actual health care duties, a nurse may be necessary.
