Flu season is here. Are you and your loved ones prepared?

People 65 years and older are at high risk of developing serious complications from flu compared with young, healthy adults. This is due, in part because human immune defenses become weaker with increasing age. While flu seasons vary in severity, and anyone can be infected, people 65 years and older bear the greatest burden of severe flu disease.

It’s estimated that between about 70 percent and 85 percent of seasonal flu-related deaths have occurred in people 65 years and older and between 50 percent and 70 percent of seasonal flu-related hospitalizations have occurred among people in this age group. Getting a flu shot is critical, but there are different options.

Everyone should see their doctor regularly, and seniors in particular need to ask about which flu shot they should receive. Many physicians believe that the High Dose Flu Vaccine is best. This high-dose shot has 4 times the antigen levels as regular flu shots and triggers a stronger immune response.

Many nutrition experts also feel that a smart diet is critical to keeping the flu away and there’s a good article about what to eat when you have the flu from WebMD here: https://wb.md/32gDcju
