Loneliness is a problem for people of all ages, but a recent study says it now affects 1 in 3 seniors and there is evidence it adversely impacts physical health.

The study, commissioned by the AARP, found that loneliness can be even more detrimental to health than being sedentary and overweight. Women were more likely than men to report a lack of companionship, the researchers found, and living alone, not working and living in lower-income homes were all associated with feeling lonely.
