Like so many health issues, our lifestyle choices can greatly influence our chances of having significant serious events. Strokes and cerebrovascular illnesses are the number 5 causes of death and they don’t need to be. Simple changes in diet and exercise can help avoid a stroke.
Eat right. Reduce your intake of fatty foods and eat more fruits and vegetables and you’ll be started on a path to feeling better.
Exercise. You don’t have to run a marathon. Just a little moderate exercise every day can help you stay healthy and cut the risk for a stroke. Yoga is great for low-impact fun results.
Quit smoking. If you smoke there could not be a better time to quite. Smoking raises your blood pressure and makes a stroke more likely. Also, Covid-19 is dangerous for everyone but for smokers it’s extremely hazardous.
Reduce stress. The nice thing about eating better and exercising is that you will naturally be able to get more restful sleep and this is critical to overall health.
Our nurses and aides are trained to suggest healthy options and activities for all our patients. We are also trained to look for the signs of a stroke which is very important because fast treatment can save lives.
